Prepare your web project startup#
A profile stores project commands. A command finishes, for example after a build; a service keeps running, such as an API. Start after defines dependencies. A readiness check determines when a service is ready for the next task.
- Open Build and run and click New. Give the profile a name such as Portal development.
- Under Run, choose Dependencies · project startup and set the Starting directory.
- For each component, use Add command and fill in Name, Command and Directory (optional). Use the commands you normally run for your database, API and frontend.
- Choose the Task type. For services, set Service is ready when, for example the database TCP port or an API /health HTTP check.
- Under Start after, make the API depend on the database and the frontend depend on the API. Set Open application when ready (URL), for example http://localhost:5173.
- Click Start and follow the task cards until Project ready appears. Open Logs to inspect an individual task’s output.
Control a service while working#
Logs selects an individual task’s output. Restart service restarts that service; Stop task stops the selected task. Stop ends the entire profile. Open application returns to the project URL. Cards distinguish pending, starting, ready, completed and failed tasks.
Example: a database on port 5432, an API ready at http://localhost:4300/health with status 200, and a frontend on port 5173. The frontend waits for the API check, which waits for the database. Use NAME=value variables for environment variables; a reference such as API_TOKEN={{env:MY_API_TOKEN}} reads the value from the environment.
