Select a tool in the activity bar to open its navigation in the IDE sidebar. Moving an editor preserves text, cursor and undo history; views of the same file share edits.

  1. Open Panels or press Ctrl+Alt+L to see visible, hidden and detached panels.
  2. Open Organize… from a group header’s three-dot menu.
  3. Dock the tool left, right or below, or group it into tabs.
  4. Resize the divider and save a personal layout when it feels right.

Give your tools a screen#

The Windows app can detach panels into dedicated windows, for example a database on a second monitor and a terminal beside your code. Layouts retain window geometry and display references; if a screen is missing, windows return to a reachable area.

Hiding a panel is not the same as stopping a process. Use the specific stop actions for terminals, servers, debugging and active requests.

  1. In the panel’s Organize… menu, choose Detach into a window.
  2. Move and resize the window on the desired monitor, or use Windows and displays → Arrange in zone…
  3. Choose Reattach to return the tool to the main window.
