One project, several folders
Bring frontend, services and documentation into one project and search across its folders.

The primary folder determines Codex’s initial directory; the others become additional roots. A project can include folders without Git. Git operations still require a repository in the relevant folder.
- Open a folder and create or select the project in the assistant panel.
- Add secondary folders from the workspace’s allowed roots.
- Give them recognizable names and choose the primary folder.
Two index.ts files remain distinct#
References retain both folder and path. This lets you search or attach identically named frontend and backend sources without confusing them. Multi-project search groups results by origin; check the folder before opening or editing.
Project instructions and prompt templates prepare request context. Creating a project, adding a folder or choosing a template does not send an AI request.
Local links, not a copy of the cloud#
Linking to local Codex projects or conversations is explicit and checks the folders. It does not automatically replicate the organization, name or instructions of ordinary ChatGPT cloud projects. Source files stay in the local paths you chose.
